Good to know
The Yasawa Island Explorer does not include any time ashore. The catamaran stops at island resorts to drop off and pick up guests, but Explorer passengers remain on board throughout. It is a long day on the water (around nine hours in total), but the scenery changes constantly, and the open-air viewing decks make it easy to take it all in. An island map is provided on board to help you identify each island and resort as you pass. A credit or debit card is useful for drinks and snacks at the on-board kiosk beyond what is included.
What to bring
- Sunscreen and hat for sitting on the open-air decks
-
Credit or debit card for optional drinks and snacks on board
The Yasawa Islands
The Yasawa group runs for around 80 kilometres north of the Mamanuca Islands and is one of the most scenically striking island chains in the South Pacific.
The islands are the eroded remnants of ancient volcanic activity, with some summits approaching 600 metres and coastlines that alternate between sheer cliffs, rocky headlands, and long stretches of white sand beach.
The northern end of the chain, around the Blue Lagoon, is characterised by more low-lying islands with sheltered lagoons and the kind of palm-fringed beaches that the region is known for.
The Explorer cruise covers the full length of the chain, which means you see both the dramatic southern and central sections and the more serene northern end before turning back for Port Denarau.

Guest rating: 90% — Stunning scenery from start to finish. The Blue Lagoon section alone makes it worthwhile.
