Day-by-day itinerary
The Ultimate Encounter can begin on any day of the week. Weather and sea conditions may occasionally require adjustments to the schedule.
Day 1: Port Denarau to Kuata Island
Board the Yasawa Flyer at Port Denarau at 8:45am, arriving at Barefoot Kuata Island Resort at around 10:30am. The afternoon is yours to settle in, explore the resort, and get a feel for the island. The volcanic peaks that ring the island make for an impressive backdrop, and the hike to the summit is well worth making time for before sunset.
Day 2: Reef shark snorkel, then return to Port Denarau
The morning brings the main event: a guided snorkel with black and white tip reef sharks at an ocean reef off the island. Guides who know this reef and its resident sharks well will be in the water with you throughout. In the afternoon, board the Yasawa Flyer at 4:05pm for the return journey to Port Denarau, arriving at 6:00pm.
Snorkelling with reef sharks
The sharks encountered on this experience are White Tip Reef Sharks and Black Tip Reef Sharks, both well established at this site and familiar to the guides. White tips are the more inquisitive of the two species and will often swim close to investigate. Black tips tend to be more cautious and will keep their distance. Both are reef fish feeders and are not a threat to snorkellers.
The water depth at the snorkel site ranges between 4 and 6 metres, making for easy snorkelling with good visibility. No diving experience is required, and buoyancy aids are available for anyone who wants one.

Guest rating: 90% — Did not expect to be this close to sharks. Incredible.
